A completely reasonable response to an unreasonable political news cycle.

Officials allege “industrial-scale theft” of advanced algorithms, most of which existed only in PowerPoints and vibes until yesterday.

The White House on Thursday accused China of “industrial-scale exfiltration” of U.S. artificial intelligence technology, triggering a full-spectrum national response that began with an urgent briefing and ended, sources say, with senior staff googling “what is AI actually.”

“We are treating this as a grave, systemic threat to our technological leadership, the rules-based order, and several very expensive slide decks,” said one senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity because they had not yet finished reading the memo summarizing the report summarizing the leak.

U.S. Intelligence: China “Somehow Stole Everything, Including the Bugs”

According to a classified assessment, Chinese operatives have allegedly copied American AI models, training techniques, and, in one case, a half-complete GitHub repo titled “final_final_REAL_final_model_v27_DO_NOT_STEAL.”

“We estimate that China now possesses the capability to perfectly replicate our most advanced AI systems,” said a National Security Council spokesperson. “That includes our state-of-the-art algorithm that recommends slightly worse videos every time you’re about to go to bed.”

In a closed-door briefing, U.S. cyber officials reportedly displayed a slide comparing American and Chinese AI models. The Chinese column was labeled “stolen,” the American column “temporarily mislaid,” and a third column, “OpenAI,” was labeled “we’ll get back to you.”

“China didn’t just steal our models,” warned one senior defense official. “They stole our ability to pretend we were the only ones who had them.”

White House Unveils Multi-Point Plan, Immediately Forgets Password

To counter the alleged theft, the administration announced a sweeping initiative featuring export controls, new cyber defenses, and a bipartisan “Task Force on Looking Like We Knew About This The Whole Time.”

Under the plan, all critical AI code will be protected by “next-generation security,” defined in an internal memo as “longer passwords and a very stern pop-up warning.” Any suspicious login attempts will be flagged, reviewed, and then approved because the system will assume it’s just an intern.

Pressed on how China gained access in the first place, one official offered a detailed explanation: “We believe they combined cutting-edge cyber tools, human intelligence, and the fact that we kept emailing the entire source code to ourselves as ‘backup.zip.’”

“This is why we told people not to copy-paste everything into random AI chatbots,” said a visibly exhausted cybersecurity adviser. “We just didn’t anticipate they would reply, ‘Thanks, comrade.’”

The White House also confirmed it is considering sanctions on any foreign entity caught stealing U.S. algorithms, with an exemption if their version performs significantly better and the U.S. would “like to maybe license it, if that’s chill.”

“We will not rest until America’s AI is once again safely in American hands,” declared a senior aide, “or at least until China agrees to send us the bug fixes.”

Reality Check

Reuters reports that, according to the Financial Times, the White House has accused China of engaging in “industrial scale” theft of U.S. AI technology. U.S. officials say China is targeting advanced chips, models, and related intellectual property. The administration is reportedly weighing new measures to curb these activities and protect U.S. tech advantages. The details of those measures and the full scope of the alleged theft are still emerging.
