This trump orders satire turns a real public story into fictional political commentary.

The new White House guidance classifies smoke models as “defeatist paperwork” unless they include a golf-course recovery plan.

The White House moved this week to streamline wildfire science by asking researchers to stop predicting fires and start predicting applause.

A draft memo instructs forest agencies to review all burn models for “negative acreage language,” including the words drought, fuel load, evacuation, and Tuesday.

Under the new system, federal scientists may still study wildfires. They must first submit Form ASH-45, which asks whether the forest has considered looking less flammable on television.

The Forecast Is Now Legally Sunny

Administration lawyers also reviewed whether smoke plumes count as federal speech. One court filing reportedly described haze as “a gray political statement by trees.”

The confusion reached a Supreme Court clerk, who was asked whether a burned hillside has standing. The clerk replied that it mostly has stumps.

In Congress, the Senate began preparing a hearing titled “Why Do Forests Keep Embarrassing America?” Staffers placed a single pinecone at the witness table and gave it five minutes.

“We are not eliminating science,” one senior official said. “We are asking science to wear a red hat and stop using decimal points.”

The Bureau of Land Management received separate guidance to replace risk maps with motivational posters. One draft shows a canyon under heavy smoke beside the phrase, “Containment Is A Mindset.”

Researchers said the old models used heat, wind, rainfall, and vegetation. The new model uses a Sharpie, a donor call sheet, and whichever color makes Idaho look calm.

Experts Asked To Bring Their Own Reality

Western governors were advised that federal wildfire grants may favor states with “confidence-forward landscapes.” The term remains undefined, though one aide pointed to a damp putting green.

The National Weather Service was told to coordinate smoke warnings with tariff messaging on china and briefing notes on iran. A sample alert read, “Air quality unhealthy, but strategically resilient.”

Career staff tried to preserve a database of long-term fire trends. A political appointee renamed it “Tree Feelings Archive” and moved it behind the copier.

The new policy ends with a communications plan for August. If the West burns, agencies should describe the event as “rapid patriotic clearing” and avoid photographs containing visible orange.

Context

NPR reported that President Trump’s administration is targeting forest and wildfire research as the western United States faces another dangerous fire season.

Scientists and land managers use wildfire research to forecast risk, guide prevention work, and protect communities. The satire above turns that real policy fight into a fictional White House branding exercise.
